One day my husband and I were trying to find parking at the mall. As we cruised through the parking lot looking for the closest space near the walkway entrance we came across a sight that just made us both shake our heads. So much so, that after laughing about it, we snapped a photo of it.

Pretty bad right? But we all have seen it at least once. A vehicle parked in the most bizarre way, having no regard for those parked nearby or those that may want to park nearby. If you’re like me, maybe you’ve scanned your brain trying to figure out why anyone would park like the photo above.
So, for just a little fun here are my top 5 reasons people sometimes park crazy.

1. You’re in a hurry and didn’t even notice how you parked.
2. The cars around your space parked crazy, leaving you no choice but to do the same. Now the other cars are gone and you look like you don’t know how to park.
3. You started the car, drove 2 feet outside the parking lines and the car died and you have no roadside assistance.
4. It’s the car of your dreams and you don’t want anyone parking near it.
5. You like to intentionally park crazy just to make people mad.

So here are my top 5 reasons why parkinwg crazy is not a good idea.

1. Years ago I heard a joke that when you park your car in New York City, you always turn around and look back, because it may be the last time you see your car. Well, regardless of the city you’re in, you should always take a look at the way you’re parked before walking away. In public parking facilities like an airport parking lot, not looking back may lead to you having your car towed.
2. Of course you can’t help how others park, so when you find a parking space that happens to be next to someone that has parked crazy and causes you to do the same. Think twice, when that other person leaves who is left standing, you. So it may be worth looking for another place to park to begin with.
3. If your car dies, causing you to leave it parked outside the lines or some other weird way, then take the time to write a note (CAR DEAD) and place it on your dashboard, it may even save you from being towed or booted.
4. Just because you purchase the car of your dreams doesn’t mean the rest of us should suffer for it. If you don’t want to park around other cars, then find a remote secure area of the parking lot and park there. Or use valet parking. But don’t inconvenience others because of your toy, someone may decide to hit your car just for kicks away.
5. So you intentionally park crazy just to upset folks. Well your mischievous ways can also cost you to be towed, incur a fine, get booted, keyed, or have your tires slashed. Now, who has the last laugh?

I’m sure there are other reasons why people sometimes park crazy and I would love to hear your take on it. But for now remember to be mindful of other drivers and please don’t park like any of these folks below the next time you self-park at your local Airport Parking lot or any other parking area.
