Let’s face it, there are a lot of first time travelers that when it comes to flying, are completely lost about where to start. This is even more true when they find themselves shopping and comparing cheap airport parking and shuttle rates. The problem is that most of these traveling “newbies” waste time asking all the wrong questions like “How do I get from the parking to the airport” or “do you guys have shuttles?” Stop wasting your own time and the time of the poor souls that sit there and patiently answer your every question, as parking is rocket science. Many travellers may not be aware that since 2011, TSA has offered a pre-screening program for frequent travellers (at participating airports) who meet a specific set of criteria, such as US citizenship (including nationals and lawful residents), members of “trusted traveller” programs (see photo above), and all US armed forces members. Charleston, SC airports are among the most recent to offer this service to its travellers. Watch the news clip here.
A new airport technology, officially called Automated Passport Control, nicknamed “Land, touch, go”, promises to cut wait times by up to 30% for international travelers. Already in place for US and Canadian travelers at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, the kiosks allow travelers to input their information, scan their passport, provide electronic fingerprints, and have their picture taken, all while waiting for the customs officers. Once the scans are completed, the kiosk provides a printed receipt, which is then taken to the customs officer. After a quick verification, the process is complete, and you are on your way.
Now “live” after a successful one-month trial at Orlando International Airport, citizens of Britain and other Visa Waiver countries can utilize the kiosks to speed through customs without sacrificing security. Read more about this wonderful advancement here.
